Centennial Airport, Denver Colorado was opened in 1967 only 13 miles from downtown Denver. The third busiest general aviation airport in the country is surrounded by 23 individual industrial parks, and operates three runways.

Centennial Airport does not have any regularly scheduled airlines, but still manages to account for a billion dollars of the local economy annually. The airport is used by various medical flights, the Flight For Life, law enforcement, flight schools, flying clubs, air charter services and aircraft sales and maintenance services. And, several shuttles connect with commercial flights at Denver International Airport.

Centennial started from an early 1960’s concept local entrepreneur George Wallace brainstormed to support his brainchild the Denver Technological Center. When it was started, it was known as Arapahoe County Airport. By 1973, the new airport had two runways and its own control tower. As this new concept facility grew, it served more than just one county, and the name was changed to Centennial in 1984.

This once struggling airstrip received a shot in the arm in 2003, when the 2002 Omnibus Bill became law, and allowed Centennial to keep its federal funding, and at the same time continue operations without scheduled services. Operations now rivals San Francisco and JFK international airports for global transportation, and currently employs over 2,000 people.

People visiting Denver have a variety of sporting events they can participate in. The Broncos is an unbeaten NFL team so far this season, the Nuggets play round ball in the NBA, there’s the Rockies baseball franchise and the Colorado Avalanche is a professional hockey team. There is downhill skiing in the winter here in the Rocky Mountains, and in the summers hiking, camping and whitewater rafting.
